DataGroom ™

RTP vs. The Rest

When ripping an entire CD collection, many people ignore one of the most important aspects of their finished collection: consistent metadata (Artist, Album, Title, Release Year, Genre, etc.). To effectively use your collection, this data must be organized logically.

With that, some online music databases are extremely inconsistent since the user-input data has come from thousands of different sources.

ReadyToPlay uses a unique process called DataGroom™ that fixes many of the problems that arise from inconsistent metadata from many online music database sources.

DataGroom™ fixes inconsistent disc numbering.

  • Ripping without DataGroom leaves you with Disc 1, [Disc 1], (Disc 1), Disc One, (CD1), [CD1], Volume 1, etc.
  • Instead each disc in a set is named as CD1, CD2, CD3 or Vol. 1, Vol. 2, etc.

DataGroom™ fixes duplicate Greatest Hits, Best Of, 12 Greatest Hits, etc.

  • In many collections, there is usually more than one artist with an album titled 'Greatest Hits' or 'Best Of'. Without DataGroom™, when you view by album, they come up mixed together.
  • Instead, we append the artist name to the title, so you get "Greatest Hits, Elton John" instead of just "Greatest Hits." Now each album will be individually labeled for easy identification.

DataGroom™ fixes classical artist names.

  • With classical music, you get JS Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach or J.S. Bach.
  • Instead we standardize the top 18 Classical artists so you simply get 'Bach'.

DataGroom™ fixes obscure genres.

  • Ripping without DataGroom™ can leave you with genres where you have only one or two tracks total.
  • We consolidate genres for you, so when you 'shuffle' by genre, you have something to listen to. So instead of small genres with one song in them or twenty-five different iterations of Jazz, when you click Jazz you get all your Jazz music.

DataGroom™ fixes inconsistent capitalization.

  • Instead of titles that are all lower case or inconsistently capitalized, you'll receive a collection with consistent capitalization throughout.

DataGroom™ is optimized for media servers.

  • We know how to tailor the data for each specific media server we support. We have many 'tricks' that we implement to have the data look as good as it can on the server so it is "ready to play" out of the box!

Of course, we can accommodate specific grooming requests as well!

Instead of spending hours trying to fix your metadata, go with a service that will get it right for you. Have it "ready to play" instead of "ready to spend the next three weekends trying to get this collection to look right."
